Course Rationale and Outline
It is one thing to teach a new language to students. However, a good teacher wants to know that his or her teaching techniques are being effecitve and that the students are learning and making satisfactory and measurable progress.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, the student will understand how and when to reinforce language lessons.
The student will have have learned various methods for measuring student progress.
The student will be able to provide regular information on student learning to school authorities and parents.

Assignment:
The student will research up to 25 ESL assessment methods and techniques and will write a 16-20 page paper discussing his or her findings. The student should ensure that a balance is struck between measurement of progress made in each of the areas of Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking and Vocabulary-Building. The student will outline and any experience s/he has had applying these methods and with what results.
