People who are thinking about taking a TESOL or other teacher-training course naturally have questions.

Here are some of the most common, and our answers:

1. Do I need to have a degree in Education in order to get a TESOL certification?

You don't have to be a teacher or have a teaching degree. Most schools will accept a degree from any discipline.

2. How quickly can I get a TEFL certificate?

Our TESOL / TEFL course is based on a three-month term, 120 hours of study as this is what is required in some countries. This is indicated on our certificate. However, most people are able to complete our course in three to four weeks if they have the time to devote to it.

3. Where can I find TESOL teaching jobs with a TESOL certificate?

During our course, we will show a number of sources for good teaching positions in many countries. You will find one easily.

4. When is the best time to complete a TESOL course?

There is no time like the present. If you have time, do it now. The school year starts at different times throughout the world. In Australia / New Zealand, the school year begins in January.

In Asia, it begins from March to June depending on the country and most Asian schools follow this.

International schools mostly use the September - June/July year but there are variants within this.

So, as you can see, teachers are in demand virtually all the time.

HINT: You can start to apply even before you complete our course. We hear from students that they have accepted a posting in ???? and we are delighted to sent their certificate to their new school.

5. Can I take a short course or get a certificate in TESOL?

As noted above, you can probably complete our course within a month.

6. Can I get a degree via online or correspondence courses?

Yes, you can. Many colleges and universities offer online courses leading to a degree. You may be able to have your business experience, languages and other courses applied as prior-learning credits.

If you do not have a degree, email us. We can help!

7. Who can take a TESOL course?

Anybody can take a TESOL course though you should have a degree or at least be in the process of completing your degree and a good command of written and spoken English.

8. About how long does it take?

See above...about a month.

9. How much does it cost?

TESOL courses range up to $1300 US and more. Our course is only $375 US . That's all you pay.

10. What's a good TESOL course that I can take?

Our TESOL course was developed by Dr. Robert Taylor, who has taught all levels of English from kindergarten to senior business executives. It is based on his experiences. We get raves from students and graduates - and even praise for the course content from the occasional Ministry of Education. Even experienced teachers have taken the course and benefited from it. As one student said, "They didn't teach us this in Teacher's College!"

11. Can I get undergraduate credits by taking a TESOL course?

Individual colleges and universities set their own acceptance criteria. Our TESOL course has been granted up to six credits by some universities. Our course credits can usually be applied at undergraduate or graduate level.

12. Why should I take a TESOL course?

Schools ask for this qualification FIRST!

14. What will I learn in a TESOL certificate program?
This course provides you with valuable, practical experience-based training in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). Scroll down to go to our TEOL page and complete course outline.

A TESOL Certificate is a standard in ESL teaching. Our course has been recognized by schools around the world since 1998 (and complimented by at least one ministry of education). When schools accept a Sunbridge graduate, they can be confident that they have hired a professionally trained teacher.

15. What's the difference between CELTA and TESOL?

CELTA is a British qualification "Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults". As you see, this is aimed at teaching adults. TESOL stands for "Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages" and is now pretty well synonymous with the terms TESL and TEFL. TESOL is much broader in scope than CELTA. CELTA basically teaches one methodology. Our TESOL course teaches 24 methodologies, strategies and techniques for teaching all ages.

While teachers might think they would like to teach adults or at university level, the reality is that most overseas teachers frind themselves teaching at primary or secondary level and then often 'moonlight' by teaching adults. That is why we believe TESOL is a better course for aspiring teachers to have.

However, we do also offer TEFLA (Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults) which is a good second course to have if you want to specialize in teaching adults. Adults learn differently than children to so teaching has to be more experience based with strong idiomatic content.

We also offer a certificate course in Teaching Business English.

"Dear Dr. Taylor:

Let me thank you again for an interesting course. It covered a lot of ground but was easy to understand. I use the methodologies from the course that will help fill my objectives for a particular class. I feel that I have benefited from taking this TESOL course.

I am looking forward to receiving my certificate. Most schools here in China are only hiring teachers who have completed some sort of training course.

I will certainly recommend the Sunbridge course to any colleagues who are interested in improving their professional skills.

Regards,
Allen D, Xiamen , China"
